Breathe clean by going green in Leeds for Clean Air Day 2018

People living and commuting into Leeds are being asked to ‘Go Green’ on Thursday 21 June for Clean Air Day 2018 to show their support for improving pollution levels in the city.

The national awareness raising day will see cities across the UK join together to reduce pollution in their cities by taking simple steps such as travelling differently.

On the day (Thursday 21) the Clean Air Leeds team (part of Leeds City Council) will be out in force on Briggate, happy to chat away to people about the projects and support businesses and individuals can access to play their part in reducing pollution in the city.

There will be electric vehicles showcased, along with plenty of fun activities for children and adults alike, and the chance to speak to us about how you think clean air in the city should look. Yorkshire artist Replete who has had several pieces of artwork featured around the city will be on hand to help people bring their visions of a clean air city to life, as well as creating an impressive piece of 3D art on City Square which people can ‘step into’!

Get involved with the day by wearing at least one item of green clothing and jumping on the bus or train, walking or pedal your way into work to be in with the chance of winning some fantastic prizes. To enter the competition people need to share their pictures with @CleanAirLeedsCC on Facebook and Twitter with the #5MileLeeds.

Councillor James Lewis, Leeds City Council executive member for resources and sustainability said:

“We need a citywide effort to make a difference to pollution in Leeds, and that means we all have our part to play in reducing our pollution footprint.

“I’m looking forward to seeing some innovative modes of travel into the city…you could roller skate, cycle, jump on the bus or even try a car share for the day!

“I will be donning my green attire on the day to show my support and I hope people and businesses across the city will join in the fun, but also spread a more serious message about improving air quality in the city.”
