Bonfire Night celebrations to be marked by six Leeds City Council public bonfires

Six public bonfires are once again set to light up the city’s skies later this week.

In what is always a fantastic occasion, public bonfires organised by Leeds City Council will be held at Roundhay Park, East End Park, Springhead Park in Rothwell, Woodhouse Moor, Middleton Park and Bramley Park on Friday, November 4. As always to mark the city’s Bonfire Night celebrations, accompanying the bonfires will be a dazzling and safe firework display.

The biggest bonfire held in Leeds is at Roundhay Park which traditionally attracts an estimated crowd of 70,000 people each year. The bonfire on Soldiers Field will be lit at 7.30pm and followed as always by a magical firework display at 8pm. Sponsoring the Roundhay Park bonfire this year is the Yorkshire Magical Lantern Festival, who will be showcasing a spectacular Chinese Lantern Festival at the park from 25 November 2016 – 2 January 2017.

White Rose Shopping Centre is sponsoring the bonfires at Middleton Park and Rothwell Springhead Park this year. These bonfires along with those at Bramley Park, East End Park and Woodhouse Moor, will be lit at 7pm, with fireworks set to begin at 7.30pm.

Visitors to each of the council’s bonfires are encouraged in the interests of safety, to leave their own fireworks and sparklers at home and enjoy the entertainment provided by the council.

Councillor Lucinda Yeadon, Leeds City Council’s executive member for environment and sustainability, said:

“All of our public bonfires offer a safe and fun environment that people of all ages can enjoy, and as always we would anyone who is wishing to attend to make sure they arrive early so they do not miss out on the festivities.

“We are very fortunate to have a great team at Leeds City Council who work extremely hard behind the scenes to manage our public bonfires on the night. I would like to personally thank them for all their efforts and also our sponsors and partners for their continued support and help.”
