Around a third of Leeds’ black bin waste could be converted to cost-saving, sweet-smelling home compost, it’s been revealed during this week’s National Compost Week.

It runs from May 7-13 and people in Leeds are being encouraged to give composting a go.

All you need is the right composting bin and a little know-how and you can significantly reduce your household waste and create an excellent soil conditioner for your garden or houseplants.

This can be used in flower beds, vegetable plots, planters, hanging baskets and window boxes.

No garden or small garden? There are indoor composting systems that take all your kitchen waste including meat and cooked food.
