Are you willing to feel the heat in aid of the Lord Mayor’s ‘Just One Day’ charity appeal?
People who enjoy a walk on the wild side are being encouraged to take part in a sizzling fundraising event in aid of the Lord Mayor’s ‘Just One Day’ charity appeal.
For the second year running a special fire walking extravaganza will be lighting up Millennium Square on Friday 1 April from 6pm-9pm which will see members of the public feel the heat for a great cause as they raise money for the Lord Mayor Cllr Judith Chapman’s chosen charity this year, Specialist Autism Services. Those who think they have what it takes to walk a daunting 15 foot barefoot in temperatures reaching over 1200 degrees Fahrenheit, can book their place by downloading a registration at the following website: www.leeds.gov.uk/lordmayor or by contacting the Lord Mayor’s office on: (0113) 2474194. Please note, a £15 registration fee is needed to participate, with the event only open to people aged 13+. Any person aged under 16 taking part must also be accompanied by an adult.
This event forms part of an exciting day of activities being undertaken across the city on 1 April by residents, groups, schools and businesses as part of the Lord Mayor’s ‘Just One Day’ charity appeal to tie-in with World Autism Awareness Day on 2 April. Whether it is organising a sponsored event, wearing fancy dress, donating a proportion of sales from an activity or undertaking a cake sale, people are encouraged on April 1 to allocate ‘Just One Day’ of the year to help raise money for the Lord Mayor’s charity this year, Specialist Autism Services. If you also let the Lord Mayor know what you are planning for ‘Just One Day’, there is also the chance that a special civic visit may be paid to your school, community group or workplace on the day!

The Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Judith Chapman said:
“The Lord Mayor’s fire walking extravaganza proved to be extremely popular on its debut last year, and we are really looking forward to this year’s event being held as part of our ‘Just One Day’ appeal, which will see all of the sponsorship money raised given to my chosen charity this year, Specialist Autism Services.
“Signing up to take part in the fire walk really could not be easier, and as always we are looking for as many people as possible who enjoy a challenge to take part and have fun! The support from the people of Leeds to my charity appeal has been truly fantastic and I am sure we will see another great turnout on what will be a memorable night not only for those taking part but also spectators.”
