Adult social care assessment findings to go before council chiefs

Adult social care

Senior councillors will be updated on the findings of a recent report which praised the quality of care delivered to adults across the city.

Leeds City Council received an overall outcome of ‘good’ following an assessment by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) into its adult social care services, with numerous areas of work singled out for praise as well as some aspects highlighted for improvement.

The assessment will be presented to a meeting of the authority’s executive board next Wednesday (November 19) along with setting out next steps in response to the findings.

The assessment, published on October 15, was the first for Leeds City Council as part of the CQC’s new powers under the Health and Care Act 2022, to monitor how local authorities meet their responsibilities under the Care Act (2014).

Councillor Salma Arif, Leeds City Council’s executive member for adult social care, active lifestyles and culture, said: “These assessment findings provide welcome reassurance of the safe and effective services provided in Leeds to meet the needs of people who require care and support. Our overall score, of 70 out of 100, places Leeds above average and in the top third of scores for authorities assessed by the CQC so far.

“We remain committed to delivering a high quality of care across the city and will continue to build on the many successes highlighted within the report as well as addressing, as a priority, the areas identified for improvement.

“A significant amount of work is already underway to further strengthen our provision and ensure we provide the best possible care and support for adults to live full and healthier lives.”

More information on the CQC report and its findings can be found in the previously-issued press releases: New report praises quality of adult social care in Leeds and CQC rates Leeds City Council’s adult social care provision as good - Care Quality Commission.
