A statement on behalf of Leeds City Council leader Councillor Judith Blake regarding the loss of life during the Hajj pilgrimage today:

The leader of Leeds City Council Cllr Judith Blake said:

"Leeds City Council expresses its deepest condolences to the Muslim community at the loss of over 700 lives and the injury to many others in Mina, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during the Hajj pilgrimage.

"Our thoughts are very much with the many Muslims in our city and we join them in mourning the tragic loss of life during the celebration of Eid al-Adha."
