A-maze-ing new attraction for Lotherton Hall this Bank Holiday

A fun straw bale maze will put young visitors to Lotherton Hall to the test this Bank Holiday weekend.

Specially designed for children, the family-friendly maze has been installed ahead of the estate’s Fairytale Fun half term activities, and will challenge adventurous youngsters to wend their way through the twists to turns and find the centre.

Staff at Lotherton Hall have been hard at work putting the maze into place, and have used more than 140 straw bales and 15 tonnes of wood chip.

The maze will be one of the highlights of the estate’s fairytale activities, which run from May 28 until June 5 from 11am until 3pm each day, and include storytelling, storybook crafts and dressing up.

A Fairytale Picnic will also take place on June 2 from 11am–3pm including traditional games and music in the gardens.

A brand new under cover picnic area has just been completed and new swings also installed at the playground.

Taking part in activities is free but usual estate admission applies.

Councillor Brian Selby, Leeds City Council’s lead member for museums and galleries, said: “This new maze is an imaginative addition to Lotherton and I’m sure young visitors will have a lot of fun taking up the challenge of finding their way through it this Bank Holiday weekend.

“Summer is a time when Lotherton really comes to life and it’s always great to see families enjoying the beautiful estate, particularly when the team there have such an exciting and innovative programme of events and activities planned.”

Lotherton Hall offers an annual membership that gives visitors unlimited entry to the whole estate, including the bird garden, the house and grounds.

Membership is available for couples, families and adults and includes discounted entry to paid for events.

Family membership for two adults and up to three children membership is priced at £42 with adult membership costing £19 and couples £31.50.

Leeds card discounts are applicable.

The Our Cousin Florence exhibition, which looks at the life of Florence Nightingale and her ties to Lotherton Hall, can also be seen at the estate until the end of December.

This exhibition uses newly discovered family letters and sketchbooks to shed light on life within a fashionable Victorian family.
