A Level success for Leeds students
Young people in Leeds are celebrating receiving their A-level results today.
Over 2900 Leeds pupils received their grades today and should all be proud of their achievements.
Leeds City Council is still collecting results from across the city, but early indicators from sixth forms and academies show an increase on last year for average points per A’ level entry.
Councillor Lisa Mulherin executive board member for children and families said:
“I would like to congratulate everyone on the results they have received today. Students across Leeds have demonstrated a lot of hard work, effort and determination, as well as the high quality of teaching in our schools.
“Our ambition to be a child friendly city means working to ensure that all of our children and young people are given the best possible chance of getting the qualifications and skills they need to succeed in the years ahead. Our young people are leaving school and college with essential skills and qualifications, which will help them to achieve their goals in life.
“Support, advice and guidance is available to those young people still considering their future options having received their results today, both from their school or college and from the careers event that the council has organised on Thursday 31st at Kirkgate Market. I would like to wish all our young people all the very best as they choose their next steps.”
For those young people who are still considering their future options after receiving their results the council has organised a careers event on Thursday 31 August, between 11.30am and 4.30pm at Leeds Kirkgate Market. The ‘Next Steps’ event will include information on apprenticeships and traineeships still available across the city to start now for the 2017/18 academic year.
Young people can visit www.leeds.gov.uk/results for information on clearing for university, apprenticeships, applying for jobs and more.
Notes to editors:
*These figures are for maintained schools with sixth forms and academies but do not include colleges, who will be publishing their own results separately.
