A-level and post 16 qualification success for Leeds students

Young people in Leeds are celebrating receiving their A-level and other post 16 results today.

Over 2500 pupils across Leeds received their grades today and should all be extremely proud of their achievements.

Leeds City Council is still collecting results from across the city, but provisional results from schools suggest an increase in average points per A-Level entry, equivalent to an average of a grade C. There was also success for students taking vocational qualifications, with early results indicating average points per entry equating to a distinction.

Councillor Jonathan Pryor, executive board member for learning, skills and employment, said:

“I would like to congratulate everyone who received their A-level and other post 16 results today. These results demonstrate a lot of hard work, effort and determination as well as the high quality of teaching in our schools.

“Our ambition to be a child friendly city means making sure that all of our children and young people are given the best possible chance of getting the qualifications and skills they need to succeed in the years ahead. Our young people are leaving school and college with essential skills and qualifications which will help them to achieve their full potential in life.

“I would like to wish all our young people all the very best as they choose their next steps.”

For those young people who are still considering their future options after receiving their results, the council has organised a careers event on Thursday 30 August between 11am and 2pm at Leeds Kirkgate Market. The ‘Next Steps’ event will include information on apprenticeships and traineeships still available across the city to start now for the 2018/19 academic year.
