New community hubs open in Pudsey and Moortown

Two new community hubs have officially opened in Leeds this month.

Residents of Moortown and Pudsey will now be able to access a range of important local services under one roof as part of the community hubs, which already have proved to be an invaluable resource in other areas of the city.

Services at both sites will provide a wealth of information and advice to local residents regarding council tax, benefits and also a registrar service available on appointment to record births, deaths and marriages. Available specifically at Moor Allerton community hub will be housing support and job shops and the opportunity to loan a bike, while on offer in the Pudsey community hub will be welfare rights, a job shop and pop-up police contact point. Also available at both sites will be a community library and a variety of individual pop-up events providing information on a variety of subjects and services.

As part of two special ceremonies held this month, both community hubs were opened by Leeds City Council’s executive member for communities, Cllr Debra Coupar.

Following the success of the community hubs model, which form part of the council’s ambition to make services more accessible to residents, three more are planned to be officially opened next month. Councillor Debra Coupar, Leeds City Council’s executive member for communities, said:

“I was delighted to be at the official opening of our two new community hubs in Moortown and Pudsey which are a key element of our on-going strategy to make important local services more accessible and available to residents in communities across the city.

“A wide range of help, advice and information is available from our community hubs on issues such as council tax and benefits, while deaths, births and marriages can also be registered on appointment. With pop-up information also being available at each hub on a variety of subjects and a community library, both hubs promise to be a really important resource for local residents. I would urge people when they have the chance to pop down and see what we have to offer.”
