Lord Mayor spreads festive cheer at Christmas lunch for the elderly

The Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Eileen Taylor, has been spreading festive cheer today at a Christmas lunch for the elderly.

Instead of sending a Christmas card this year, the Lord Mayor decided to host a special lunch for older people who are facing social isolation at Christmas.

Over 150 older people from across the city were invited to attend the lunch which was held at Leeds Civic Hall. As part of the festivities, they enjoyed a Christmas themed buffet and a festive performance from the council choir.

The Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Eileen Taylor, said:

“Social isolation is something I’m extremely keen to help with during my year of office. Christmas can sometimes be an extremely difficult and lonely time for some people, especially for older members of our community. This was the reason I decided to arrange a special Christmas lunch, rather than sending the traditional Christmas card this year.

“I hope everyone who attended had a truly lovely festive time and enjoyed all the delicious food on offer. I know I certainly did!”
