Free swimming sessions on offer at council leisure centres this Saturday to honour Team GB success

Leeds City Council leisure centres across the city will be marking Team GB’s amazing Olympic success in Rio this Saturday by offering free swimming sessions at selected times.

People of all ages will be able to take advantage of the offer on Saturday 27 August, which forms part of the council’s support for the ‘I Am Team GB’ initiative by The National Lottery and ITV, which is aiming to get people active and create the nation’s biggest sports day.

The free general swimming and general lane sessions will be available at various times throughout the day at the following leisure centres; Armley, Aireborough, Holt Park, John Charles Centre for Sport (JCCS), Morley, Pudsey, Rothwell, Scott Hall and Wetherby.

This is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate Team GB’s success, by taking the opportunity to exercise and have fun at one of the council’s leisure centres.

The Rio Olympics once again proved to be a triumph for athletes from the city, with the council also announcing last week it will be hosting a very special homecoming event to honour it’s Olympic and Paralympic heroes. Arrangements of the event are currently being finalised.

Leeds City Council’s executive member with responsibility for sport, Councillor James Lewis, said:

“Team GB have made us all very proud with their performances in Rio, and from a Leeds perspective, it was absolutely fantastic to see so many of our city’s athletes perform so well and come home with medals.

“We are therefore delighted to be playing our part in the ‘I Am Team GB’ initiative this Saturday by offering a selection of free swimming sessions for our residents.

“I hope the combination of Team GB’s success and high quality facilities that we offer at our leisure centres will inspire more people to exercise, starting with our free one hour taster swimming sessions this Saturday.”
