Enjoy the magic of cinema under the stars in Millennium Square this summer

Cementing its place as the country’s leading producer of open air film screenings, The Luna Cinema is delighted to announce that it is partnering with Leeds City Council to put on three nights of cinema under the stars in Millennium Square as part of the venues annual Summer Series programme.

With three incredible films to choose from there will be something to suit all tastes. Up first on the 17th August, The Luna Cinema will be screening the 80s classic, Dirty Dancing followed on the 18th August by a sing-along screening of this year's musical phenomenon, The Greatest Showman. On the 19th August, there will be a very special screening of a true British classic, The Italian Job presented with a full live orchestra and pre-recorded intro from the star of the film, Michael Caine.

George Wood, founder of The Luna Cinema, said: “We are delighted to be partnering with Leeds City Council this year to put on three screenings of some iconic films. Leeds is a vibrant city, and we couldn’t think of any place better than the award-winning Millennium Square. Situated in front of Leeds Civic Hall, it is the perfect backdrop for a night of cinema under the stars.”

Leader of Leeds City Council, Councillor Judith Blake said: “Through our packed events programme, we are always looking at new and exciting ways in which to entertain people of all ages. The screening therefore of three classic movies on our very own Millennium Square certainly fits the bill, and we are looking forward to working with Luna Cinema on what promises to be a fantastic and atmospheric experience for the audience under the night sky.”

As always, The Luna Cinema audiences are welcome to bring along picnics and their own portable style seating and blankets to screenings. However, all events will have fantastic hot food for sale and a full bar on site, in partnership with headline bar sponsors, Estrella Damm. The official wine partner for the 2018 season will be Casillero del Diablo, the wine from the Devil’s cellar. Doors open at 7pm with the feature film screenings commencing at 8.30pm.

Tickets are priced at £15 (inclusive of booking fee) general admission and available to purchase online from www.thelunacinema.com and www.millsqleeds.com and in person or by telephone (0113 376 0318) from the City Centre Box Office in Leeds Town Hall. A discounted group rate is available for bookings of 10 or more persons.

Premium tickets priced at £27.50 (including booking fee) are also available at all screenings, which include a branded director’s chair in prime position in the arena, fast track access and a complimentary drink at the Luna Bar.

About The Luna Cinema

The Luna Cinema was founded in 2008 by George Wood with a showing of Some Like It Hot at Dulwich Park in South London. In 2018 it will bring more than 175 screenings to over 50 outdoor locations around the UK, using two touring screens. Location capacity ranges from 300 to 3000, with a total of 270,000 tickets available.

From April to October, film fans can choose from over 175 outdoor screenings from The Luna Cinema across the UK. Venues include some of the most prestigious and historically important sites in the country, from Royal Palaces, such as Hampton Court and Kensington Palace, to castles and manor houses, such as Warwick Castle, Chatsworth House, Westminster Abbey, the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, Leeds Castle, Kenwood House, Lulworth Castle and Harewood House, to name a few. New venues joining the Luna season this year include York Minster, Guildford Cathedral, Belvoir Castle, Royal Windsor Racecourse, Danson House, Bolton Abbey, Osterley House and Peckham Rye in London.

Other 2018 season highlights include screenings of Top Gun at the RAF Museum in Hendon, Victoria & Abdul at Kensington Palace (where Queen Victoria was born), Star Wars: The Last Jedi at Warwick Castle, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri at Alexandra Palace and Four Weddings and a Funeral at Westminster Abbey. And by popular demand, there will even be a screening of Spice World at Regent’s Park!

Further cementing its position as the leaders in outdoor cinema experiences, The Luna Cinema team are pleased to announce the launch of two new brands in 2018; Luna Kids, the country’s first open air cinema designed specifically for families and children of all ages, and Luna Beach, a month long cinema residency on Brighton Beach, where the highest definition outdoor LED screen in the UK will present a full programme of film screenings as well as sports fixtures, including Wimbledon and the FIFA World Cup.
