Big Draw Draw The Dragon half term activities at Leeds Kirkgate Market

Pens and pencils at the ready as Leeds Markets take part in the world’s biggest drawing festival and invite visitors and their families to #DrawTheDragon.

Working with Artist and Art Educator ‘ArtJohn’, visitors will have the opportunity to transform a giant dragon mural on a wall within the Market Kitchen. #DrawTheDragon is an event that will bring people together to use their creative expression and produce their own individual drawings inspired by the sights, sounds, smells and characters of the market.

These drawings will then be transferred onto the giant dragon mural by ArtJohn using an old school overhead projector. The drawings will be layered within the dragon mural creating a vibrant and detailed collaborative piece of permanent artwork for everyone to enjoy.

Councillor Asghar Khan, Leeds City Council's deputy executive member with responsibility for markets, said:

“This is the first time Leeds Kirkgate Market has been involved in The Big Draw Festival. I’m delighted that visitors will have the opportunity to get involved in this interactive piece of artwork and take in the delights of the market at the same time. I hope that this new permanent fixture will draw people back time after time to admire their creativity and experience everything that our great market has to offer.”

This Big Draw Festival is a free child-friendly event open to all ages. Drop-in from Monday 28 October to Saturday 2 November between 10am and 3pm and get creative.
