Young musical stars of tomorrow set to perform at Leeds Town Hall

Caption: Leeds Town Hall will be hosting a fantastic concert on Saturday showcasing the very best of young musical talent.

The very best of young musical talent is to be showcased in the city this weekend as the National Children’s Orchestras of Great Britain Under 13’s Orchestra perform at Leeds Town Hall on Saturday 16 August.

Trained by top professional musicians, the Under 13’s Orchestra will perform sensational 19th and 20th century works, from Tchaikovsky’s iconic 1812 Overture, to John Williams’ Hymn to the Fallen from the 1998 film Saving Private Ryan, and Grofé’s evocative Grand Canyon Suite.

Established in 1978, the National Children’s Orchestras of Great Britain has gone from strength to strength, building up an international reputation as an outstanding orchestra. The orchestra provides young people with a world-class foundation for orchestral performance and musicianship. The Under 13’s Orchestra is a full symphony orchestra for children up to the age of thirteen and offers children a taste of performing in a major UK concert venue.

This evening’s conductor, Roger Clarkson, was appointed Director of Music of the National Children’s Orchestras of Great Britain in 2000. His role includes adjudicating at auditions, selecting music and conducting the orchestras. He is a dedicated musician and has made his career in music through performing and teaching, working in a variety of settings from the RAF Music Services to specialist music schools.

Tickets to see the National Children’s Orchestras of Great Britain Under 13’s Orchestra at Leeds Town Hall are priced at £18, £15 and £10 (discounts available). To book, call the Box Office on 0113 224 3801 or book online at www.leedstownhall.co.uk.

Councillor Lucinda Yeadon, Leeds City Council’s executive member for digital and creative technologies, culture and skills said:

"We are absolutely delighted to welcome the National Children’s Orchestras of Great Britain Under 13’s Orchestra to Leeds Town Hall this Saturday, in what promises to be a concert not to be missed.

"A wide range of classical works are set to be played on the night, and this is a great opportunity to see some great stars of the future.

"Tickets for our classical concerts at Leeds Town Hall are always very popular, and we would ask people to book as soon as possible to avoid any disappointment."
