Statement regarding public health funding settlement
Leeds City Council has commented on the announcement from the Department of Health that it will receive £36.8m to deliver its public health responsibilities from April 2013 to March 2014.
Councillor Lisa Mulherin, executive board member responsible for health and wellbeing said:
“Whilst we welcome the announcement of these figures, the public health funding settlement for Leeds still falls short of what our city requires in order to deal with the substantial health needs of a major city, and address significant health inequalities.
“However, we are relieved that public health is not being hit as hard as other local authority functions through government spending cuts.”
