Orchestral delights set to arrive at Leeds Town Hall this month


A feast of orchestral delights featuring three world class performances, are all set to light up Leeds Town Hall this month.



Beginning on Saturday January 11, first up will be the Manchester Camerata under the baton of its Permanent Guest Conductor Nicholas Kraemer. A range of popular pieces will be performed, including Pachelbel’s Canon and Gigue, Purcell’s Chacony, Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No 3 which was the original theme tune to the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow, Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No 4, Telemann’s Tafelmusik Part III and Overture: Water Music.



Next to take to the stage on Saturday 18 January will be the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Music Director Andris Nelsons. Set to feature will be one of the most sought-after soloists of his generation, Dejan Lazić, who will perform Brahms’ Piano Concerto No 1. Also on the programme is Prokofiev’s lively Symphony No 1 (Classical) and Stravinsky’s Petrushka.



Topping off a fantastic start to the New Year at the Town Hall is the English Chamber Orchestra, who under the baton of 2005 Leeds Conductors Competition winner Alexander Shelley, will perform on Saturday January 25. Set to thrill the audience will be a performance of Mozart’s stunning Piano Concerto No 24 by highly respected pianist, Imogen Cooper in a programme which will also feature Mozart’s Symphony No 41 (Jupiter) and Wagner’s beautiful Siegfried Idyll.
