New artwork in Leeds Bradford Airport has been installed to welcome the world to Yorkshire as the world’s greatest cycle race comes ever closer.

Leeds City Council and Bradford Council have joined forces to create a strong visual welcome for all the visitors coming into the airport framed around the slogan ‘Fancy a deTour?’

Championing the many assets of the cities, such as the 44 museums and galleries, 83 parks and outdoor spaces along with 19 world class theatres, the artwork is a mixture of magnificent vistas and sights across the two cities.

From Kirkstall Abbey and Roundhay Park to Brontè Parsonage and the National Media Museum, there is so much on offer in Bradford and Leeds right through the summer months, not just the weekend of the Tour de France. The dressing across the city centre is really starting to pop up quickly in the lead up to the race. A welcome banner at Leeds Rail Station has also been installed to welcome people to the host city for the Tour de France Grand Départ 2014.

Councillor Keith Wakefield, leader of Leeds City Council said:

“The buzz around the city is really starting to build up around Tour de France, and it is great to see many of Leeds’ top assets on show at the airport and really showcases what a fantastic city we have.

“Working with Bradford Council we have been able to portray just how much there is to do in our two cities and I am sure anyone coming through the airport will be amazed at what is on offer to them alongside the Grand Départ.”

Councillor David Green the leader of Bradford Council said:

"The artwork at Leeds Bradford Airport will help to promote the rich variety of visitor attractions on offer in the Bradford district. People from all over the world will see just how splendid the countryside is around Ilkley, Keighley and Haworth when the Tour de France travels through the Bradford district on both July 5 and July 6. It is bound to raise our profile and entice visitors from near and afar for many years to come.”
