Moon and music on the menu for food festival event
Tastebuds will be tingling this weekend as an even bigger and better Handmade in Yorkshire event returns with a bonanza of local produce, street food and cookery demonstrations.
From Friday 6 til Sunday 8 June, 30 market stalls selling produce from and made exclusively in Yorkshire will be joining the Leeds Food and Drink Festival’s grand finale.
Alongside the stalls on Victoria Gardens, renowned and award-winning chefs will be sharing their expertise and inspiring budding cooks with demonstrations.
As well as co-hosting some of the demonstrations on Saturday, celebrity chef Stephanie Moon, who has appeared on BBC2’s Great British Menu, will be pitting her wits against Ashley Mccarthy from Ye Old Sun Inn, Colton, Tadcaster in a cook off competition.
Later on Saturday between 2 and 4pm, Stephanie will also be doing cooking demonstrations at the Ministry of Food in Leeds’ Kirkgate Market. Stephanie’s menu is being prepared with fresh produce found in the market.
On Saturday, visitors to the culinary extravaganza on Victoria Gardens will be entertained with music and performances from Planet Leeds who will also make special appearances at Kirkgate Market during the day.
People will also be able to soak up the sizzle and aromas of a variety of street food vendors on Cookridge Street across all three days.
Councillor Richard Lewis, Leeds City Council’s executive member for development and economy, said:
“We’re delighted that Handmade in Yorkshire is going from strength to strength, celebrating all things Leeds and Yorkshire.
“There’s going to be a mouth-watering array of produce and entertainment on offer and we look forward to welcoming those who love local produce and producers as much as we do.”
A schedule of events, demonstrations and performances throughout Handmade in Yorkshire is available now.
If you wish to attend Stephanie Moon’s cookery demonstration at 2pm on Saturday 7 June at the Ministry of Food in Kirkgate Market, you must book at https://stephanie-moon.eventbrite.co.uk as places are limited.
