Progress on the council’s major housing project is being celebrated as the number of properties refurbished hits 500 and the fiftieth new build home is completed.
A year and a half after the project started, the council’s partner sc4L have now revamped more than a third of 1,245 council houses included in the scheme in Little London, Beeston Hill and Holbeck.
A total of 388 houses will be built as part of the project and fifty properties have now been completed.
Councillor Peter Gruen, executive member for neighbourhoods, planning and personnel, said:
“Although a long time in coming, the housing regeneration project is forging ahead.
“We’re delighted with the improvements being made to homes and the results speak for themselves; satisfied tenants in high quality homes.
“The project has always been about more than bricks and mortar however. By revamping homes, building new houses and improving the look and feel of estates we can help people build and rejuvenate their sense of community.”
Jon Hinchliff, sc4L general manager, said:
“Being based in the community we’re working with gives us a great feel for the place and we’re extremely proud to have played our part in transforming homes and lives.”
Sean Corcoran, Keepmoat regional director, said:
“We’ve had lots of positive feedback from tenants about the improvements to their homes. The team take great satisfaction in a job well done.”
