Give touch rugby league a try in Leeds
Monday 30 September sees the start of a Rugby League World Cup 2013 themed touch rugby programme in Leeds.
Organised by Leeds City Council, the 12 week long programme is an opportunity for rugby league enthusiasts who don’t want to play the full contact version of the game to get involved. For those taking part there will be opportunities to meet and play against ex and current professional rugby league players plus special guests from the small and wide screen.
The programme will include 12 teams made up of both male and female players, plus two ‘turn up and play’ teams for individuals not linked to a regular squad. Games will be played on Monday evenings at the John Charles Centre for Sport between 6pm and 10pm, and will involve over 100 players.
Councillor Lucinda Yeadon, executive member responsible for learning and skills said:
“This programme of indoor touch rugby is an excellent way for people to participate in the game whilst improving or maintaining their fitness in a friendly environment.
“We are really keen that our role as a host city for Rugby League World Cup 2013 leaves a lasting legacy for the game in Leeds, and programmes like this will help to make the sport more accessible to all.”
Teams will have a maximum of eight players, with the cost per team being £24 each week. For ‘turn up and play’ players the cost is £3.50 per week. For more information please call 0113 395 0163 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org
