Shoppers were treated this week to an amazing outdoor fire display as part of the city’s exciting ‘Magical Leeds’ programme.

A stretch of Briggate was brought to a standstill on Thursday as large crowds gathered to watch four special performances throughout the evening by multi-award winning Australian fire dance duo, 'Flame Oz'.

Those in attendance were left enthralled by a fast-paced and thrilling routine, which ignited the city centre’s night sky with its breath-taking choreography. Also taking to the stage were the ‘Two Calling Birds’ from the 'Twelve Days of Christmas', whose display featuring white feathers and fanned tails, proved to be a big hit.

'Magical Leeds' has put together a wide-range of fantastic activities and events to keep all the family entertained this Christmas. Just some of the attractions coming up in the next two weeks include 'Illuminated Stilt Walkers', 'Granny Turismo Chrismo' and 'Carol Singing Cats'!

Councillor Lucinda Yeadon, Leeds City Council’s executive member for digital and creative technologies, culture and skills said:

"The four performances by 'Flame Oz' were absolutely fantastic, and it was brilliant to see such large crowds taking a break from shopping, to watch their amazing display on Briggate.

"We have worked really hard to put together a superb family-friendly 'Magical Leeds' programme this Christmas, and with lots of activities and events coming up, don’t miss on your chance to enjoy all the fun."
