Don’t miss out on the Love and War exhibition at Leeds City Museum

Caption: The Love and War exhibition at Leeds City Museum will close on September 7.

Time is running out to view a moving exhibition at a popular city museum which explores the theme of love during a time of war.

The ‘Love and War’ display which opened in the ‘Leeds Today’ area at Leeds City Museum in December 2013 marked the start of the First World War commemorations. The individual stories of Mary, Eugene, Paddy and Simon, and their different experiences of love during conflict are told through the four short films. They focus on both contemporary servicemen and those who fought in earlier wars with themes of self-sacrifice, duty, camaraderie and loyalty all shared.

A selection of objects relating to conflicts, past and present also feature in the display, which is set to close on Sunday September 7. A number of the loans on show relate to the Second World War.

Also in the ‘Leeds Today’ space for a limited period, is an exhibition showcasing the very best of contemporary life in Leeds. A wide range of objects collected by young people over the past four years for the 2012 London Olympics, Leeds Festival and High Street Fashion are on show. This also closes on Sunday 7 September so do not miss out on the chance to see a young person’s take on living in the city today and their experiences and memories of major cultural events and fashions.

Councillor Lucinda Yeadon, Leeds City Council’s executive member for digital and creative technologies, culture and skills said:

"We are extremely proud of our Love and War and Leeds Today exhibitions at the City Museum, which while completely different in their subject matter, are both extremely interesting and fascinating.

"With a closing date of Sunday September 7, please don’t miss out on your chance to pay a visit and have a look at what both exhibitions have to offer."
