Hundreds of vulnerable families and people are receiving a welcome boost from the council and one of its partners following a generous food donation.

Liberty Gas, one of the council’s gas contractors, have kindly donated 100 food parcels.

The council is now working with FareShare Yorkshire to distribute the food to homeless and vulnerable people across Leeds.

Councillor Bill Urry, Leeds City Council’s lead member for homelessness said:

“With the generosity of organisations like Liberty Gas, many charities and food banks are able to provide vital help to families and individuals when they need it most.

“As well as the food itself, it’s really important that we offer people support and advice so they can get out of the cycle that poverty and homelessness puts them in.

“Thank you to Liberty Gas for their donation and FareShare Yorkshire for their assistance. Another big thank you goes to all those people in the council and across the city who are working hard to get to a point where people no longer have to rely on these types of services.”

Tony Moore Operations Manager at Liberty Gas, said:

“We at Liberty Gas have recognised that families in Leeds would benefit from a donation. We acknowledge that nationwide food banks assist vulnerable and the homeless, therefore we see our donation assisting residents of Leeds.”

Peter Barringer, Leeds project coordinator at FareShare Yorkshire, said:

“FareShare Yorkshire is a charity which redistributes surplus and donated food. We are very grateful for this contribution by Liberty Gas. It will help us significantly in our work supporting vulnerable people in Leeds. We are working extensively with Leeds Council and many other partners to supply food to frontline organisations who support vulnerable people. This donation of food parcels helps us to provide food to individuals and families in food poverty.”
