Excitement is building with just over a day to go before the official opening of ‘City Beach’.
Cllr Yeadon and the Lord Mayor paid a visit to the special beach area at the event, which also includes boardwalk style decking, deck chairs and a wide range of children’s themed fairground rides and stalls.
A range of fun rides and attractions will also be available for visitors to enjoy at “City Beach”, which organised by International Funfairs in partnership with Leeds City Council, will be officially opened on Saturday 10 August at 10.45am by Cllr Yeadon, with the site being open to the public from 11am.
On offer will include; a traditional helter-skelter, ‘Bamboo Bungees’ trampolines, a tropical jungle adventure funhouse, seaside swing boats, beach slide, ‘Waikiki’ cars, seaside carousel and parasol teacups together with ‘Pirate boats’ and ‘Aqua Walker balls’ water attractions.
A number of exciting rides will also be available such as the ‘Crazy Wave’ and ‘Beach Buggies’ themed dodgems ride, along with a selection of treats and refreshments which served from wooden beach styled stalls, will bring the sights and sounds of the beach to one of the city’s most popular squares.
City Beach will be supported by official media partner Real Radio who will be providing the soundtrack to the summer via the events very own ‘City Beach Radio’.
Entry to the site will be free, with individual admission fees for all rides and attractions and a nominal fee for the hire of deck chairs in the beach and decking area. Councillor Lucinda Yeadon, Leeds City Council’s executive member for leisure & skills said:
“I am really looking forward to the opening of City Beach on Millennium Square, which will bring the fun and excitement of a trip to the seaside right to the heart of Leeds city centre.”

City Beach, Leeds will be open to the public between Saturday 10 August to Sunday 1 September 2013 inclusive. The daily opening hours are as follows:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 11am – 9pm*
Thursday, Friday, Saturday 11am - 10pm*
Sunday 11am - 7pm
* The beach & decking area will be closed at 7pm each day.
The event area will be fully themed and dressed by the LCC Parks & Countryside Parks & Countryside Horticulture and Nursery department.
