City agencies reinforce partnership approach to support victims of domestic violence and abuse

With the start of Safeguarding week (24 – 29 June) today, organisations in Leeds have reinforced their commitment to working together to support victims of domestic violence and abuse.

Around 15 agencies in Leeds are part of a city-wide partnership working to support victims and families at high risk of harm from domestic violence and abuse.

A shared reporting system, called Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conferences (MARAC) now allows agencies to meet daily and share agreed and immediate actions in response to reports. This approach has resulted in improved confidence in the city’s safeguarding services and support for those at risk of domestic violence.

Councillor Debra Coupar, Leeds City Council executive member for communities said:

“We want people to know that we as a partnership are fully committed to reducing the harm caused by domestic violence and abuse in Leeds.

“We will continue to improve responses to domestic abuse through innovations such MARAC and a continued partnership approach to this vital safeguarding work.”

During Safeguarding Week there are many learning opportunities and activities taking place across Leeds. These are organised by the Leeds Safeguarding Children Partnership, Leeds Safeguarding Adults Board and Safer Leeds Executive.
