Christmas countdown at Leeds Kirkgate Market

Visitors to Leeds city centre are being invited to pop down to Leeds Kirkgate Market for a host of Christmas cheer throughout December.

To make the run- up to Christmas extra special, Leeds Kirkgate Market is putting on a host of festive treats for all the family, making Christmas shopping not only affordable but fun too.

As part of the festive fun Santa himself will be in residence every Saturday before Christmas

putting on a number of exciting pop-up performances from the Alive and Kicking Theatre Group. This year they will be performing “Santa’s Christmas Crackers”.

There is a chance to meet a real-life Rudolph and his reindeer friend as they are also making special visits to the open market every Saturday throughout December, and with live brass bands playing Christmas tunes everyone will be entertained.

Shoppers will also get an extra few shopping days in before the big day, with the indoor market opening on the three Sundays leading up to Christmas from 10am – 4pm.

Youngsters can also visit Santa for free every Sunday in the 1904 Hall by the M&S Clock ‘tree’ and let him know what they would like in their Christmas stocking this year

The open market will be lit up with a giant Christmas tree all the fun of the fairground every Monday to Saturday with Christmas themed rides to entertain the children

For visitors looking for a trip down memory lane another of the popular historical tours around Kirkgate Market has been arranged on Saturday 13 December, when visitors will see the original birthplace of Marks & Spencer and learn more about the many historical features of the ornate 1904 market hall.
