Arrangements for the memorial to celebrate the life of Ann Maguire

The memorial service to celebrate the life of teacher Ann Maguire will take place at Leeds Town Hall, on Monday, 29 September 2014 at 12 noon.

Members of the public are welcomed to join invited guests to celebrate Ann’s life and her contribution to education in the city throughout her teaching career, which spanned more than 40 years.

The memorial service has been planned in conjunction with Mrs Maguire’s family, and is an opportunity for all those who wish to honour Ann’s memory to attend.

As well as Ann’s family and friends, guests will also include former colleagues and students from Corpus Christi Catholic College, as well as local dignitaries and representatives from schools across the city.

Seating inside the Town Hall will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis and will be limited, so Leeds City Council is advising members of the public to arrive early in order to be seated by 11.45am. Doors will open to the public at 11.15am.

An overflow area has been arranged outside to allow the event to be relayed live to screens at the front of the Town Hall. This area will also allow members of the public who are not able to attend the whole service, to share in the celebration of Ann’s life and her contribution to teaching and education.

The service will be led by Reverend Monsignor John Wilson of the Catholic Diocese of Leeds and will be a celebration of Ann’s life, in song, on screen and through words.

A special tribute video has been created in which people who knew Ann share their memories of her and how she affected their lives. The video will be shown during the service and will be relayed to the screens outside.

Those attending the service will take part in a minute’s silence at approximately 12.30pm –and members of the learning community across the city will also be invited to part in this.

In order to accommodate the service, a small section of The Headrow in front of the Town Hall between Oxford Place and Calverley Street will be closed in both directions from 11.30am to 2pm, and parking restrictions will be in place for the day.

The Ann Maguire Arts Education Fund has been set up in Ann’s memory and donations can be made via: https://www.justgiving.com/ann-maguire/. The fund will provide bursaries and funding for the enhancement and personal development of young people under 18 years old through music, drama, language and dance.
