Senior councillors to discuss first neighbourhood plan in Leeds

The creation of the first local neighbourhood plan influencing future development in an area of Leeds is to be discussed by senior councillors next week.

The neighbourhood plan for Clifford in Wetherby which is now ready to be adopted will be debated by Leeds City Council’s executive board at its meeting at Civic Hall on Wednesday 22 March.

The plan is the first of its kind to reach this stage in Leeds, with the council working with Clifford Parish Council on its creation, which will influence the locations and types of future developments in the local area.

After the draft plan was approved by an independent planning examiner in September, it was then endorsed by the local community in a referendum held in the area on 26 January, with a majority of 92 per cent voting in favour.

Leeds City Council executive member for regeneration, transport and planning Councillor Richard Lewis said:

“We are very pleased that this proposal to create the first neighbourhood plan has reached this stage and we look forward to it being adopted with more to follow in other areas of the city.

“Having local people involved as much as possible in planning matters affecting where they live is something we are committed to, so we will follow the adoption of this plan with interest and I would like to thank Clifford Parish Council and everyone involved in making it happen.”
