Comment on new HS2 Ltd report

The Leader of Leeds City Council Councillor Judith Blake has made the following statement on today's report by HS2 Ltd - 'HS2: Getting the best out of Britain'.

Leader of Leeds City Council Councillor Judith Blake said:

“Leeds is positioned at the centre of one of the strongest and most resilient economies in Europe, with a young and enterprising population creating our future economies in advanced manufacturing, data analytics, fintech and many more areas. We are working with city region partners and businesses on the strategies to unlock our enormous potential, and HS2 is key to our approach.

“We are already seeing the benefit of HS2 in Leeds, with firms choosing to locate and invest in the city now, and this will increase as we make sure our people and places are HS2 ready. In Leeds, we are utilising HS2 investment as a catalyst to double the size of the city centre, tackle inequality through job creation and create a world leading technology research partnership with the university.

“By rebalancing the national economy, HS2 will transform our economy, boosting productivity, driving growth and creating opportunities for businesses and people across Leeds and the wider city region.”
