New pop-up HUB support service launched in Holbeck

A new pop-up HUB service providing the residents of a south Leeds community with access to range of advice and support from the council and many partners in the city has been launched.

Supported by the local inner south community committee, residents living in and around various streets of the Recreation area of Holbeck will be able to hop on a specially designed bus every Wednesday from 11am-3pm up until Christmas and find out more from council staff and other service representatives regarding the assistance that is on offer. Provided by staff from the Dewsbury Road One Stop Centre, advice will be provided on council services relating to council tax, adult social care, anti-social behaviour, housing, benefits, and help regarding debt problems and budgeting. Information on how to access work and training opportunities will also be available including support to create a winning CV and covering letter, application forms and interview techniques.

Also present, will be staff from the Private Sector Housing Team who will be available to answer any concerns about your property, crime and prevention advice from a member of the local Neighbourhood Policing Team, and every third week, a fire prevention offer from West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service offering advice on how to stay safe. The Green Doctors will also be hand to provide tips on how to keep your home warm, free energy efficiency fittings available and how to save money on your fuel bills, while in confidence, staff from Forward Leeds will be able to speak to adults, young people and families on how to tackle drug or alcohol problems.

The new pop-up HUB support service forms part of a wider strategy by the council as part of the Leeds Neighbourhood Approach currently operating in Holbeck, which aims to improve housing standards and conditions in the area, bring empty properties back into use, and make real improvements to the local environment and community.

In attendance to greet the new service was chair of the inner south community committee Cllr Angela Gabriel who was joined by representatives from a number of partners.

Councillor Angela Gabriel, chair of the inner south community committee said:

“We are delighted to add our support to this new pop-up HUB service, which will provide the residents of Holbeck living in and around the Recreation area, with the chance to be given advice about a range of services provided by the council and those provided by partners.

“Whether it is to speak about your council tax, find out how to save on your energy bills, or just have a chat with someone from the police or fire service, representatives will be on hand to answer and help with any questions or queries that you raise.

“This really is a fantastic opportunity, and I know members of the HUB team are really looking forward to meeting as many Holbeck residents as possible over the next few months.”
