Double gold celebrations as Kadeena Cox and Hannah Cockroft triumph at Paralympics

Leeds City Council Leader Cllr Judith Blake has congratulated athletes Hannah Cockroft and Kadeena Cox on their Paralympics gold medals.  She said:

“What an incredible night for two astoundingly talented athletes of whom Leeds couldn’t be prouder. First we had Hannah’s fabulous triumph- she’s an incredible athlete and to win a third Paralympic gold is an achievement that is truly awe-inspiring. As she herself said, defending a gold medal is something very special indeed.

“Then we witnessed the absolute star that is Kadeena. To achieve medals in two completely different events- bronze in the 100 metres sprint and gold in 500 metres cycling time trials- is nothing less than astonishing. And then when you add in the fact she set a new world record when she got her gold she’s really taking it to a level beyond most sportspeople’s wildest dreams.

“We’re so proud of both Kadeena and Hannah and we'll be lighting up the Civic Hall gold in their honour.  We’re also very much looking forward to celebrating their amazing success and that of all our Paralympians and Olympians at the Yorkshire homecoming event in Leeds on September 28.”
